What I do when I should be studying...or not taking part in a Reality Television show
This isn't fawning, it could just be a digestive problem...

I have only recently noticed that Mignuna is sitting high and on the right hand side of the JU throne. She is second in ranking. That's right. Second!

I was both overjoyed and astonished that such a thing has happened.

Firstly, I was overjoyed as Mig is a close and dear friend of mine. The closest and dearest friend i have. Seeing as i am a misanthropist at best and just plain nasty at best, this is an achievement that stands irrespective of whatever else she accomplishes (don't underestimate this point until you have met me in person, these are not idle words).

Secondly, and for this i will revert to the trusted high school competence of point form, i am astonished because she has achieved this

*In spite of not being featured (why this is the case is beyond comprehension or forgiveness)

*In spite of not being gratuitously sensationalist

*In spite of being talented

*In spite of being both a female and blindingly intelligent

*In spite of the intimidation that this almost invariably breeds

*In spite of an aversion to artiface or obfuscation

*In spite of being nice to all and sundry regardless of race, religion, creed, ideology, personal hygiene, glaring perversions and capacity for instigating annoyance

*In spite of not sinking to the level of swampish animosity and the slinging of anything, insults or mud, take your pick.

This is in no way definitive or comprehensive. It's not meant to be. Mig is not someone that requires commentary or a post of this kind. She stands quite alone in her talents and inextricably connected by her humanity, humanism and all embracing generosity and compassion.

I didn't want to gush, but how can you not

As a note: This article does not intend to imply that the other holders of top ten positions partake in any of the negative behaviours listed above. All those in the top ten are deserving of their place for their own reasons and merits (many that are listed above in the positive). I focus on Mig because she is a friend and i know how hard she works, not only for herself but for her readers and the JU community in general. This would be a poorer place without her, but this does not detract from the contributions of others. In coming here we can never subtract from the inherent goodness and justice in open and honest discourse, we can only ever add to it, it is always only a matter of degree.

although i only notice the individual rankings incidentally, i was more than a little pleased about 12 hours ago when i too happened to see mignuna had been ranked second.

while im in total agreement with all of your very insightful observations (except for your self-characterizations), i can't help but point out the obvious.

mignuna's work (taken both as a whole and individually) exists above and beyond the mundane vagaries of mere feature-dom (having said that, each of her articles has quickly risen to that status--and remains possessed of it indefinitely--in my personal hierarchy).  not that it's necessary or even relevant.  as you pointed out, her talent, like all things wondrous,  is self-validating.

your final remark is way too true.  it's impossible not to gush.

Kingbee, I tip my hat to you.

As you say, Mig's work is self-validating, but i see a reflection of the quality of her work in your respect for her.

We might have to start using a Kingbee stamp of authentication and quality around here, then we would all see an end to the problem of what we should read for the night

I dont even think Brad reads Miggy's articles... his loss I suppose...

her rise in the rankings of JU is just testimony to her obvious skill and dedication to sharing whatever it is she is thinking at the point of time.... we are all better people for it!!!

YAY MIGGY!!!!

BAM!!!

yall are scaring me here. until i read those comments, i had the utmost respect for your good judgement.  (it's not that i dont appreciate you concurring with my opinion of mignuna's work--we're all in agreement there; but cmon guys, let's get real ).

this is all about Mig

Yay for mignuna! I love reading her stuff (and even her comments) because she has this sweet, wise way about her that just so special. Her topics and her articles are always fun and inspiring. Not only is she very sharp and witty, but she is also the kind of person that you can't help but adore. Way to go mig!

Humility as well. Kingbee, you go too far. And i thought Disney was sickening

It's not just her talent. You got it right. It's something else, something other. Sharing, giving, it all amounts to her imparting more than the sum of her words somehow.

Now i'm starting to feel creeped out. The net makes the words sound like a eulogy (according to the dictionary definition they actually are) and the testimony sound like a conversation at a wake. Even after all this time, this medium does the strangest things to me

We get enough of this and we might be able to start up a cheerleading squad. Don't think the outfit would do me any favours though

que verdad!

Yes, Miggy is definitely deserving of this accolade. She always is first in line to check out new bloggers, and she was part of the inspiration for my series on low ranked bloggers.

Go, miggy, go!
on Aug 20, 2004
migs adds so much life and, most importantly, compassion to this faceless medium. She isn't one of the obvious bloggers - she doesn't make her presence known through sensationalistic articles - she just does her thing and people, thankfully, appreciate her amazing gift.

Hurrah for migs!

Wow...er...we're all in perfect agreement then.

Hold on! Is that supposed to happen here?
